LaShonn drove home with tears running down her cheeks. They were as salty as her attitude was about the marriage that Jason was dealing with. She knew how she treated Anthony and she was married, but she could not for the life of her understand why she was emotional over the one night session that they had in Dallas.

She made the one call she dreaded to her best friend.

“Wassup, lovah lovah!” Brandy yelled into the phone with such a vibrant energy.

“Hey,” was all Brandy heard before the tears began to pour out of LaShonn’s pretty brown eyes.

“OMG, Shonny! What is wrong, baby? Calm down and talk to me. What is going on?”

“Brandy, I’m six months pregnant.”

“Bitch, you what!!!” Brandy looked at the phone in disbelief. She could not believe her best friend left her out of the loop for all this time. She could have been planning a shower, gifts, arrangement to come to doctors’ appointments. She was upset, but she decided to hold her tongue.

“I mean my bad, but damn I wish I would have known earlier. I know Dereck is excited, right? Why the tears??”

“It’s Jason’s baby….”

Brandy could not believe her ears. She got up to close her office door. Whispered into the phone. “Have you lost your fucking mind? Have you? You cheated on the man of your dreams for a scrummy ass football player that you fucked in the club?!” She was done!

“Brandy, I don’t want to hear this right now, please!”

“No, you need to hear it! I can’t fucking believe you! Now you don’t tell me none of this, but you call me crying. Are you serious?” Brandy realized she was not being sensitive to her best friend and the situation she was going through. She was in counseling to listen, not to shout. She redirected her anger away.

“Look, Shon, I’m sorry for my outburst, but you have to know how angry I am. I am very upset that I didn’t know your marriage was in trouble; that you even slept with Jason. I had my thoughts, but I didn’t think you would do that.”

“I know and I understand, but please just be there for me and listen. I don’t know where to go from here.”

Brandy decided, for this conversation, that she would need a valium, so she grabbed a glass of water and sat down to listen to her best friend go over the last six months of her life.

“How soon do you need me out there? I will talk to my boss about an emergency leave.”

“Let me just deal with Jason first and then we will go from there.” LaShonn agreed to have Brandy there for the support but only after she attempted to get her life together.

The gala was a wonderful event that evening. Her and Dereck were looking hot off the press. Dereck was dressed stylish in Kiton K-5 Neapolitan suit while LaShonn looked flawless in her maternity gown by Balenciaga. The flawless couple paraded around, making small talk with some
